What Does This Test Measure?

ZRT lists S-146 as LCMS Hormones 7 with 2-Point Cortisol. The panel provides eight individual results, including separate morning and bedtime cortisol measurements.

Marker What It Adds to Your Hormone Profile
Estrone (E1) Extends your oestrogen assessment beyond estradiol alone
Estradiol (E2) Measures a key oestrogen, interpreted alongside menstrual stage, symptoms and hormone use
Estriol (E3) Completes the three-oestrogen assessment
Progesterone Adds information about reproductive hormone levels when collected at the appropriate cycle stage
Testosterone Measures an androgen relevant to women’s sexual wellbeing and physical health
DHEAS Measures an adrenal androgen that contributes to the production of other sex hormones
Morning Cortisol Measures cortisol at the beginning of your waking day
Bedtime Cortisol Allows comparison with your morning cortisol level

How Can This Test Help You?

Get a broader picture of your hormones

This profile includes all three oestrogens—estrone, estradiol and estriol—alongside other key hormones. It gives your specialist more laboratory information to consider when reviewing your symptoms, menstrual history and current treatments.

Explore changes in menstrual and menopausal wellbeing

If you are experiencing PMS, changing periods or symptoms around perimenopause and menopause, your results provide a snapshot of the measured hormones. Interpretation places these findings in the context of your life stage and collection timing.

Understand your morning and bedtime cortisol levels

For women who wake feeling tired or struggle to wind down at night, comparing cortisol at these two times adds useful information to discussions about sleep and energy. This is a morning-to-bedtime comparison, rather than a full four-point daily cortisol profile.

Make your next steps more focused

Specialist interpretation helps you understand what your results mean and which findings deserve attention. Recommendations can support discussions about lifestyle, sleep, stress management, further testing or a review of current care.

Create a baseline for future comparison

Your report records your hormone levels at the time of testing. Where repeat testing is appropriate, it provides a starting point for assessing changes over time.

Related Symptoms

This profile may be of interest to women experiencing:

  • Irregular periods or changes in their usual menstrual pattern
  • PMS, including mood changes, bloating or breast tenderness
  • Perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms
  • Reduced libido or changes in sexual wellbeing
  • Persistent tiredness or reduced energy
  • Poor sleep, night waking or difficulty winding down
  • Mood changes, irritability or difficulty concentrating
  • Changes in wellbeing during periods of sustained stress

These symptoms provide context for interpretation; the test helps assess the hormones measured rather than establishing a single explanation for every symptom.

Did You Know?

This profile measures three oestrogens, not just estradiol. Estrone, estradiol and estriol are reported separately, alongside progesterone, testosterone, DHEAS and two cortisol results.

ZRT’s LC-MS/MS saliva testing can measure low oestrogen concentrations, including those found in children and people with low hormone levels. This analytical sensitivity supports detailed hormone measurement from a non-invasive sample.

Who Should Consider This Test?

The Elite Female Saliva Hormone Profile may suit women who want:

  • A broader oestrogen assessment alongside other sex hormones
  • Hormone results to discuss alongside menstrual or menopausal concerns
  • Morning and bedtime cortisol measurements alongside their sex hormone profile
  • A baseline for future comparison
  • Specialist interpretation to help prioritise next steps
  • Testing to support a practitioner-led review of hormone treatment, where appropriate for the treatment used

The collection method is also suitable for children who can provide the required saliva volume. Their results should be considered against an age-appropriate reason for testing.

Why Choose Saliva Hormone Testing?

Saliva collection is convenient, non-invasive and easy to complete at home. It also allows samples to be collected at specific times, making it practical to compare morning and bedtime cortisol.

ZRT considers information such as age, menstrual status and hormone supplementation when interpreting relevant results. Providing these details on your requisition form helps make the report more useful to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the eight markers?
Estrone, estradiol, estriol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEAS, morning cortisol and bedtime cortisol. These represent seven different hormones with cortisol measured twice.

How many saliva samples do I need?
Two samples on the same day: one in the large tube upon waking and one in a small tube before bed. Additional tubes supplied in the kit are not required for S-146.

How does this differ from Female Complete Saliva Hormone Profile?
The Female Complete profile, S-145, measures estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEAS and two cortisol levels. The Elite profile, S-146, adds estrone and estriol, expanding the oestrogen assessment.

How does this differ from Female Hormone Profile III?
Profile III, S-125, measures the same seven hormones using a morning sample. The Elite profile adds bedtime cortisol, providing a morning-to-bedtime comparison.

Can I use this test after menopause?
Yes. Women who are no longer menstruating can collect on any day. If you use HRT, also follow the treatment-specific instructions.

Can I use this test while taking HRT?
It may be suitable, depending on the treatment and how it is administered. Follow Section 3 of the collection PDF, continue prescribed treatment as directed and record all hormone use. The instructions recommend an alternative sample type for troches or sublingual hormone therapy.

What if my periods are irregular?
For infrequent or unpredictable cycles, collect on any non-bleeding day and include your menstrual history on the requisition form.

Is the test suitable for adults and children?
Yes, provided the required saliva volume can be collected. Include the person’s age and reason for testing to support appropriate interpretation.

Does the price include laboratory analysis?
Yes. Laboratory analysis and specialist interpretation are included. Return postage is paid separately.

How long is the kit valid for?
Use the kit within 12 months of purchase.

Where can I find the collection instructions?
Download the Saliva Collection Instructions PDF. Follow the S-146 morning and bedtime schedule, together with the cycle-timing and hormone-use guidance relevant to you.
