Are Fertility or Hormonal Issues Leaving You Without Answers?

LH and FSH are two of the most important hormones in reproductive health — for both women and men. Imbalances can affect ovulation, sperm production, menstrual cycles, and fertility. If you recognise any of the following, this test could provide the clarity you need:

In women:

  • Difficulty conceiving or unexplained infertility
  • Irregular, infrequent, or absent periods
  • Symptoms of perimenopause or early menopause (hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes)
  • Suspected PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)
  • Low sex drive or hormonal imbalance
  • Preparing for IVF or assisted reproduction
  • Concerns about ovarian function or ovulation

In men:

  • Low sperm count or poor sperm quality
  • Difficulty conceiving with a partner
  • Low testosterone symptoms (fatigue, low libido, reduced muscle mass)
  • Suspected hypogonadism or testicular dysfunction
  • Unexplained infertility investigation

What Are LH and FSH and Why Do They Matter?

Luteinising Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) are produced by the pituitary gland and are central to reproductive function in both sexes.

In women:

  • LH triggers ovulation — the LH surge signals the release of an egg. Elevated LH can indicate PCOS or menopause; low LH may mean ovulation is not occurring.
  • FSH stimulates follicle development in the ovaries. High FSH often indicates diminished ovarian reserve or menopause; low FSH may suggest a pituitary or hypothalamic issue.

In men:

  • LH stimulates testosterone production in the testes. Low LH can lead to hypogonadism and reduced sperm production.
  • FSH regulates sperm production (spermatogenesis). Abnormal FSH is a key indicator of male fertility issues.

Testing LH and FSH together gives a comprehensive view of your reproductive hormone axis and helps identify whether fertility challenges are hormonal in origin.

What This Test Measures

  • LH (Luteinising Hormone) – Regulates ovulation in women and testosterone production in men
  • FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) – Controls follicle development and egg maturation in women; sperm production in men
