How Does Saliva Testing Work?
Saliva testing is a simple, convenient, and highly accurate way to measure your hormone levels. Our at-home test kits include everything you need for collection. Once your sample is collected, place the filled tube(s) and completed paperwork into the pre-addressed packaging and return it using the included mailer. Results are typically available within 5 to 7 business days and come with specialist interpretation by PhD-level scientists.
What Hormones Can Be Tested in Saliva?
Our saliva tests measure key hormones including:
- Estradiol (E2)
- Estrone (E1)
- Estriol (E3)
- Progesterone (Pg)
- Testosterone (T)
- DHEA-S
- Cortisol (C)
How Accurate is Saliva Testing?
Saliva testing has been used in scientific research for decades and is recognised as a highly accurate method for assessing hormone levels. Unlike blood or urine tests, saliva testing measures the free, bioavailable hormones — the hormones actively working at the cellular level. Numerous studies have demonstrated a strong correlation between hormone levels in the bloodstream and those detected in saliva.
Saliva testing is particularly effective for monitoring hormones delivered through skin-based therapies like creams, gels, or patches, offering a clearer picture of tissue uptake and response.
Which Saliva Test Is Right for Me?
The right panel depends on the depth of insight you need and the symptoms you're experiencing:
- Female Saliva Hormone Profile I (LCMS) / Male Saliva Hormone Profile I (LCMS) — our foundational panel covering estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S, and morning cortisol. Ideal for an overall sense of hormonal balance.
- Female Saliva Hormone Profile II (LCMS) / Male Saliva Hormone Profile II (LCMS) — adds an evening cortisol collection for a broader view of adrenal function. Recommended for mild to moderate symptoms of fatigue, stress, sleep disturbance, or food cravings.
- Female Saliva Hormone Profile III (LCMS) / Male Saliva Hormone Profile III (LCMS) — the most comprehensive saliva panel, with four-point diurnal cortisol (morning, noon, evening, bedtime) plus all key sex hormones. Best for severe symptoms or detailed adrenal assessment.
- Saliva Hormone Trio Test (LCMS) — a focused three-hormone panel for a quick snapshot of core hormonal balance.
- All Day Cortisol Test (LCMS) — a dedicated four-point cortisol profile for those specifically investigating stress and adrenal health.
Should I Test Estriol and/or Estrone?
Estradiol is the most predominant and potent estrogen, so it is the one most commonly measured in testing. Estrone and estriol are usually only tested in individuals who are supplementing with these hormones.
