Male Morning Saliva Cortisol Test
Wake Up Tired and Struggle to Get Going?
Do you regularly wake feeling unrefreshed, find it difficult to become alert or start the day with very little energy? This at-home test helps answer one clear question:
Is your morning cortisol within the expected laboratory range?
Collect one saliva sample shortly after waking. Your ZRT Laboratory report shows your measured cortisol level, compares it with the morning reference range and presents it on a clear visual graph.
The report also includes individualised comments from ZRT’s hormone-specialist clinical team. These comments explain your result in context and, where appropriate, suggest what you could consider or discuss with your healthcare professional next.
£79 — laboratory analysis and specialist laboratory comments included
- One morning saliva sample collected at home
- Clear cortisol result and reference-range comparison
- Visual graph showing where your result falls
- Individualised hormone-specialist laboratory comments
- Suggestions for appropriate next steps
- Physician-reviewed ZRT Laboratory report
- Normally reported within 3–5 working days after the laboratory receives your sample
Is This Test Right for Me?
This test may be a suitable starting point if you experience:
- Waking feeling unrefreshed
- Persistent morning tiredness
- Difficulty becoming alert after waking
- Low energy at the beginning of the day
- Feeling stressed, tense or overwhelmed
- Feeling tired but unable to relax
It is most suitable when your main concerns occur in the morning and you want a straightforward measurement of your cortisol level shortly after waking.
Morning tiredness can have several possible causes. This test gives you an objective result that can be considered alongside your symptoms, sleep, lifestyle, medicines and current treatments.
What Will My Result Help Me Understand?
Your report is designed to give you more than an unexplained laboratory number.
1. See Your Morning Cortisol Level
The report shows the amount of free cortisol measured in your saliva shortly after waking. This gives you an objective measurement to consider alongside how you feel in the morning.
2. Understand How Your Result Compares
Your result is compared with the laboratory’s morning reference range and displayed on a clear visual graph. You can quickly see whether your cortisol result is within, above or below the expected range.
3. Put the Result Into Context
Your Test Requisition Form records relevant information about your symptoms, medicines, supplements and hormone treatments. ZRT’s hormone-specialist clinical team uses the information provided, where relevant, when preparing the individualised laboratory comments in your report. This helps you understand possible factors that may be relevant to your result rather than viewing the number in isolation.
4. Consider What to Do Next
Your laboratory comments explain the result and may identify suitable next steps or points to discuss with your healthcare professional. Depending on your result and symptoms, this may help you decide whether to:
- Review factors such as sleep, stress, medicines or current treatments
- Discuss an above-range or below-range result with your healthcare professional
- Consider a fuller daily cortisol profile
- Consider a Cortisol Awakening Response assessment
- Explore other possible reasons for persistent morning tiredness
The test cannot determine the cause of your symptoms by itself, but it can provide useful information for deciding what to investigate next.
What Will My Report Include?
Your physician-reviewed ZRT Laboratory report includes:
- Your measured morning cortisol level
- The laboratory’s morning reference range
- A clear within-range, high or low result indicator
- A visual graph showing where your result falls
- Your recorded collection date and time
- Relevant medicines and hormone treatments reported on your form
- Your reported symptoms, where applicable
- Individualised hormone-specialist laboratory comments
- Relevant suggestions or considerations based on the reported result
If previous ZRT results are available, they may also appear for comparison, helping you follow changes over time.
What Does the Test Measure?
The test measures one marker: free cortisol in a morning saliva sample. Cortisol naturally changes throughout the day. Your sample is collected within 30 minutes of waking so the result can be compared with the laboratory’s morning reference range. This test provides a morning cortisol snapshot. It does not show your complete daily cortisol pattern or measure testosterone.
