Adrenal Saliva Test: Four-Point Collection Guide

Plan the four collection times

The first sample is collected in the morning, within 30 minutes of waking and before 9 a.m. The other samples are collected at noon, in the evening and at night. Use the exact times shown in your kit instructions rather than estimating. Set reminders and write down the actual time for each tube.

The female test page says the profile can be collected at any point in the menstrual cycle. Follow any timing guidance supplied with your kit if you are choosing a particular cycle phase.

Prepare for saliva collection

Read the panel instructions and the general Saliva Collection Instructions before starting. They explain the kit’s timing, tube handling and storage. The general guide says to avoid food, drinks other than water, and brushing your teeth for at least two hours before a saliva sample. Rinse your mouth with water and wait five minutes before collecting.

Collect and label each sample

1. Use a separate supplied tube for each of the four scheduled timepoints.
2. Let saliva pool in your mouth, then transfer it as directed. Fill each tube to the level specified in the kit, avoiding bubbles.
3. Cap each tube securely and label it with your name, date and actual collection time.
4. Repeat at the morning, noon, evening and night times shown in your instructions. Keep the tubes in their correct order.

Store and return the tubes

Place the labelled tubes in the supplied bag and follow the kit instructions for refrigeration or freezing before shipment. The general saliva guide says to freeze samples that will not be shipped within 24 hours. Complete the paperwork and return the samples using the kit’s packaging and carrier instructions. The product pages list results within 3–5 working days after the laboratory receives the samples.
