Dried Blood Spot Vitamin D Test: Collection Guide

Posted by Admin on

This guide covers the LC-MS/MS Vitamin D blood spot instructions. The standalone B-223 Vitamin D Test uses a dried blood spot and measures Vitamin D2, Vitamin D3 and total 25-OH Vitamin D. Vitamin D is also included in the male and female SB-653 weight-management profiles, which require additional saliva and blood spot samples; follow the separate instructions supplied for each part of those kits.

Before you collect

Read the panel-specific PDF and the kit paperwork before opening the collection materials. Confirm which kit you have and follow its guidance for collection timing, preparation, the number of spots and storage. Preparation rules can differ between panels, so do not assume fasting or supplement instructions from another test apply.

Collect the dried blood spot

  1. Set out the supplied card, lancet, alcohol pad and gauze on a clean, dry surface. Wash and dry your hands, and label the card where indicated.
  2. Avoid touching the filter-paper collection areas. Follow the PDF to prepare your finger and use the supplied lancet.
  3. Place the blood drops on the marked areas exactly as shown. Avoid smearing or layering the sample.
  4. Let the card dry for the time stated in the instructions. Do not pack it while damp; then store and return it as the kit guide directs.

The general Blood Spot Reference Guide explains sample quality and clean handling. If a collection step goes wrong or you are unsure whether a card is usable, contact the laboratory using the details in your kit before sending it.

Return your sample

Complete the paperwork and return the dried, labelled card using the kit’s packaging and shipping instructions. The standalone product page lists results within 3–5 working days after the laboratory receives the sample.
